Europe Under the Thumb of Brussels’ Autocracy.

As of December 2022, Hungary has been excluded from the EU Horizon funding due to the Hungarian government’s “… failure to remedy violations of the rule of law, including concerns about public procurement and corruption.”

Punishing students in Hungary’s universities and further affecting the next generation of studies is another example of how the EU uses coercion and intimidation to compel member states to submit to its rules. The EU Council decision currently affects 21 universities in Hungary.

It has become clear that the only acceptable approach for the Brussels authoritarian regime is that of the EU Commission, or one faces repercussions. This situation further illustrates the EU’s autocratic tendencies, which undermine the rights of its member states to think, act, and make decisions independently. This approach further impedes individual rights to free speech and intellectual rights.
