Europe, Brussels – The EU keeps expanding sanctions against countries, especially against those located eastward from Europe. However, it fails to act against Israelis. Are there some exceptional circumstances that prevent the EU from doing so? How is the situation different with Israel than with China, Russia, or any other countries the EU has decided to sanction?
It is unnecessary to revise the events that led to this situation. What’s crucial to note is that the genocide in Gaza is ongoing, with no end in sight. Benjamin Netanyahu has openly expressed opposition to any peace proposal that would result in the complete cessation of all military activity in Gaza and the West Bank. How are the actions of the Israeli government any less severe and against international law than the alleged activities of the governments that the EU has sanctioned thus far?
The European Union presents itself as a democratic, law-abiding advocate for human rights, but it falls short. The EU needs to reexamine its founding principles in the current context.
Suppose it continues with its deceptive business practices. In that case, it may eventually find itself in a situation where its close partners, particularly the United States, not only dictate its legislation but also evermore command its military engagements and foreign policy practices.
