Mr. Donald Trump is facing criminal charges related to the 2020 election.

Donald Trump’s legal troubles are ever-growing. He has been indicted for his attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. Whether this will hinder his election campaign is uncertain. Some voters still believe that charges are unfounded.

He has been charged with three counts:

Count 1: 18 U.S.C. § 371 Conspiracy to Defraud the United States

Count 2: 18 U.S.C. § 1512(k) Conspiracy to Obstruct an Official Proceeding

Count 3: 18 U.S.C. §§ 1512(c)(2), 2 Obstruction of and Attempt to Obstruct an Official Proceeding

Count 4: 18 U.S.C. § 241 Conspiracy Against Rights

This is one of the many ongoing criminal proceedings against the former president. Despite many indictments, the unwavering support from the Republican voters does not seem to cease. The question remains: Is the former president qualified to run for re-election? Hopefully, we will get answers to this and many other questions.

The indictment also mentions co-conspirators aiding the former president in his attempt to overturn the election results.

Who are the other alleged co-conspirators in this ongoing investigation?

To comprehend the nature of these indictments, I had to read the attorney’s legal oath of the State of California. Despite my best efforts to understand, it remains unclear whether the alleged co-conspirators involved were suffering from temporary insanity or had difficulty remembering the terms of their oath. After reading the oath myself, there is little or no space left to misinterpret the words and their true meaning.

ATTORNEY’S OATH OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA

I, (licensee name) solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of an attorney and counselor at law to the best of my knowledge and ability. As an officer of the court, I will strive to conduct myself at all times with dignity, courtesy and integrity.

Rudy Giuliani

Mr. Giuliani, once a national hero after the 9/11 terrorist attack, now has a permanent stain on his long career. Despite many high-ranking officials close to Mr. Trump disputing claims of election fraud, public records show that he continued to promote these fraudulent ideas.

He also made false allegations defaming two electoral workers, accusing them of intentional fraud during vote counting.

John Eastman

A Harvard and Yale graduate Mr. Eastman was implicated in the alleged 2020 presidential election fraud. He authored a memo that suggested that then Vice President Mike Pence could invalidate the election results. As a result, the House Select Committee summoned him to testify about his involvement in these actions.

Mr. Eastman is currently undergoing a disciplinary hearing, and if found guilty, could face disbarment.

Sidney Powell

NC’s attorney of law, Sidney Powell will be remembered for supporting Mr. Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud during the 2020 election. She had previously attended the University of Virginia and the University of Texas School of Law before working for the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Texas. As a prosecutor, she should have been aware of the consequences of making unfounded allegations.

Her aggressive and unprofessional conduct drew criticism from election experts and legal scholars. She lost the respect of her colleagues and was subsequently suspended from practicing law in Texas. It remains to be seen whether she will be able to fully recover from these ongoing legal proceedings.

Jeffrey Clark

Misusing his power as the acting head of the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice he tried to overturn the 2020 election results.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Virginia School of Law he worked as clerk for Judge J. Michael Luttig of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Proposal to the Justice Department, to send a letter to Georgia state officials to reconsider the election results and his proposal to appoint a special counsel to investigate alleged election fraud received opposition from top officials in the Department of Justice.

Ethics charges against Mr. Clark, filed by the District of Columbia Bar on June 2020, are still pending.

Kenneth Chesebro

Mr. Chesebro, attorney of law, was indicted in August 2023 on charges of conspiracy and obstruction of an official proceeding.

A former law professor at Pepperdine University School of Law and attorney for the Republican National Committee, he made use of his experience in law while working in Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign.

Mr. Chesebro has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, which include aiding and abetting the seditious conspiracy by drafting and circulating a memo outlining a plan to obstruct the counting of electoral votes.

A political consultant

Although the identity of this individual remains unknown, he played a significant role in Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. This unknown person was involved in a scheme to submit fake presidential electors with the intention of disrupting the certification process.

Additionally, this person provided information to Mr. Giuliani about lawyers who could assist in this fraudulent activity. On January 6, this person also gave Mr. Giuliani the phone numbers of senators who could help further delay the certification of the electoral votes.

Not guilty unless proven otherwise

The defendants have extensive knowledge of the legal proceedings and will face a potentially lengthy and entertaining trial. However, despite being innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, the allegations have already caused irreparable damage to the public’s trust in the US electoral process. It remains to be seen how this will affect future voting behavior.

Is there anything positive to mention about this all? Unfortunately, no. However, the electoral system has been recognized for being incorruptible and impartial towards all parties involved. It remains to be seen if Republican supporters will continue to back Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign.

As the 2024 elections approach, there is a chance for new candidates within Republicans to emerge as potential contenders for the former president. It is essential for Republicans to unite their resources to secure victory in the election and have their candidate occupy the Oval Office. Despite Mr. Hunter Biden’s legal trouble and the controversy driven by that, President Biden is still seen as a formidable contender in the forthcoming presidential election in 2024.
